Response  from National coalition against censorship

Thank you for contacting us. We understand your frustration.

Tumblr is a privately-owned site, so it has the legal right to impose whatever standards it wants. This includes an all out ban on adult content, even though the new policy limits free expression and artistic freedom. Unfortunately, we are unable to directly intervene in cases like this.

However, when it comes to combating private censorship, one of our guest bloggers suggested that the most effective way is to “vote with your dollars, and do business with like-minded online service providers.“ This means you, and many other Tumblr users, migrate to a different platform that allows adult content. There may be a platform that is open to explicit photos paired with literature such as Reddit.

You can also continue to speak up about this issue as several of your fellow users have done. Tumblr ultimately has to make the decision to change its TOS, and public pressure may have an impact.

In the meantime, we recommend that you export your blogs before the 17th so you do not lose 7 years worth of work, and continue to speak up about this issue on social media

@staff …think about the impact your decision will have
